Adult Services - Learning Disabilities
Enhaned Care's Adult Learning Disability services in the North East of England provide residential care and accommodation.
A learning disability affects the way a person learns new things, and how they understand and communicate. An individual can be diagnosed with a mild, moderate or severe learning disability. Some learning disabilities are diagnosed at birth, such as Down's syndrome, others might not be discovered until the child is a toddler.
Types of learning disability include problems with reading (dyslexia), writing (dysgraphia), mathematics (dyscalculia), language (aphasia/dysphasia), motor skills (dyspraxia), and visual or auditory processing.
Profound and multiple learning disability (PMLD) is when a person is diagnosed with more than one disability, with the most significant being a learning disability. Adults with PMLD need help with most of their daily functions, such as washing, getting dressed, going to the toilet and eating.
